Blue Mule WIP

This is a small WIP commission for a friend who has been driving trucks for 30 years. I decided to change the angle of the truck to make it sit off the edge a little bit. It looks more spontaneous as opposed to staged since this is a “made-up” scene. I imagine Carroll Jo Hummer parking on the side of the highway with his wife Jerri. There is scene in the movie depicting that.

Serenity WIP

A WIP pencil study for an upcoming acrylic. I may do the colour version on masonite but I haven’t decided yet for sure whether canvas or masonite. Thanks again to Erin Elizabeth for modelling and to Nathan Cyprus for his expertise as a photographer. This drawing will be 10.25” x 8” on Canson recycled medium toothed surface drawing paper.

Losing Your Marbles (Completed)

This one has been put to bed. Again, I will have it properly photographed for my files. Losing Your Marbles. 36" x 24". Acrylic on canvas.

Marbles WIP Update

Further progress on the marbles with background complete and the jar started. The sunlight makes an interesting image over the painting itself.

Losing Your Marbles WIP

I’ve begun another still life, this time a jar and marbles, again taken from my own phone pic (low quality). I simplified the background using Photoshop to enhance it and that will be my reference. Acrylics on canvas, 36” x 24”

Art Cards

I'm thinking of making some of my art available as note cards. Maybe I could promote them at outdoor art shows, car shows or retailers? These are some samples of my automotive art but the question becomes whether to invest the expenses to produce and market items such as these in quantity. I would like to produce some of my still life work in this form as well.

Customized Boxes

I meant to update this earlier, but my customized boxes arrived after Christmas. At least now I can package these as I produce them, whether for myself or to sell them at retail outlets.

M & M's

I’ve started on another still life, this time a bowl of M&M’s, again taken from my own phone pic (low quality). I will of course enhance it in the same way I did with my strawberries from last year. Hoping it is as successful as that one was. It will be acrylics on canvas, 24” x 24”

Relics of Yesteryear

I’m glad I kept these old treasures from when I began my career in 1986 as a graphic designer. I was creating advertising at Beaver Lumber Corporation’s head office from 1986-1989 in Markham, Ontario. Beaver Lumber Corporation was then a large DIY chain in Canada, now defunct. This was the days before Macs so we had to conceptualize with hand drawn layouts using markers. The production was also done by hand in a cut & paste method with typesetting machines. These layouts show a couple of requirements. The Christmas image was for our weekly flyer campaigns. The background in the header was airbrushed when it would be generated in a few minutes with a Mac. The two catalogue cover concepts were for our yearly catalogue. The idea here was to show the logo burned onto a bundle of 2x4’s. I don’t have a printed copy of that one unfortunately.

Ford vs Ferrari Update

More progress on the background. Fiddling with details and subtlety. Movie was good.

Christmas Commission

My niece's husband asked for this commission of his and my niece's kids, Chelsea and Evan. The photo was taken by him a few weeks back. The original photo is a landscape composition but I cropped it into a portrait format which I think makes for a more compelling composition.

Ford vs Ferrari (Update)

Started on this project again. Hopefully will take shape as I add details and refinements Starting to add little details such as keylines around the number and racing stripes. Beginning the background advertising. Will try to keep a blurred feel, not too much, just subtle.

Christmas Ornaments

Painted up a few ornaments with acrylics for this year, trying to stick with a consistent theme of birds. I hope these will be appreciated by whoever receives one.

Ford vs Ferrari

Here is the seed of what I hope will be my next LeMans piece. I'd only done one other depiction of a LeMans car, that being the GT40 1075 of Ickx and Oliver. This one will depict the GT40 MkIV of Gurney and Foyt leading a Ferrari 300P. I'll probably do it as an acrylic on board, maybe a 20" x 15" size.
